Family Services, Inc., Marriage, Family, Child, Individual Counselor, North Charleston, SC

Conservatorship Program

A conservatorship is the legal process by which someone is appointed by a court to make financial decisions for an individual who is incapacitated or disabled. This is different than a guardianship, where someone is appointed by a court to make personal and medical decisions for the incapacitated or disabled individual.

When Family Services Inc. is appointed as a conservator for minors and/or adults, our counselors attend and participate in court hearings, prepare annual financial accountings, and conduct home visits, if necessary. Our counselors also conduct inventories of a client's property and assets and submit these inventories to the court within 30 days of appointment as conservator. In some cases, court authorization may be required to issue payments and to pay expenses. Family Services Inc. places investment monies in trust with a large brokerage firm to earn the highest possible rate of return for clients.

Should you have a family member or know of someone who is incapable of managing their money or is being taken advantage of by relatives, neighbors, friends, or others - please do not hesitate to contact adult protective services or one of our financial counselors.
